How can one determine the quality of tinplate spray cans?
2026-07-16 15:26:17

Aluminum Spray cans are the mainstream packaging for daily care, disinfection, and industrial sprays. Their quality directly affects product safety and user experience. Quality can be judged from six dimensions: appearance, material, sealing, pressure resistance, coating, and process. Both intuitive inspection and performance verification should be considered to quickly screen out qualified products.

1. Appearance and size: Directly screen out defective products

A high-quality can body is smooth and flat, without rust spots, dents, scratches, and the printed graphics are clear, with precise registration and no missing printing or ink accumulation. The rolled edge of the can mouth is uniform, without burrs, deformation, and the inner diameter, outer diameter, can height, and rolled sealing width need to be within the standard tolerance to avoid valve assembly not being tight due to size deviation. Use a vernier caliper to measure key dimensions, and those with excessive deviations will be directly judged as unqualified.

2. Material and hardness: Basic performance guarantee

The aluminum base material must meet the hardness standard (HV150 or above). With a fingernail, lightly scrape the can body, and a high-quality can will recover the scratch within 10 seconds without obvious depression. The tinplate/chromium coating is uniform, without exposed iron, to avoid rusting in the future. You can check the material report to confirm the tinplate quantity, tensile strength, etc., and for cans containing water-based products, the corrosion resistance of the base material is even higher.

3. Sealing performance: Core indicator for preventing leakage

Sealing is the lifeline of the spray can. Focus on checking the weld seam of the can body and the rolled seal of the can mouth: The weld seam needs to be smooth, without air holes, complete re-coating, no bubbling, peeling; the sealing area between the can mouth and the valve needs to be tightly fitted without gaps. Simple test: Inject compressed air into the empty can and immerse it in water for 1 minute. No continuous bubbles are qualified. Batch testing requires a 1.8m drop test (vertical / horizontal), and the can body should not leak or deform.

4. Pressure resistance and burst: Safety bottom line

According to national standards, the deformation pressure of ordinary spray cans should be ≥1.3MPa, and the burst pressure should be ≥1.5MPa. Professional testing requires a pressure tester. Slowly increase pressure to the standard value, and the can body should not deform or crack to be qualified. In summer, under high-temperature conditions, the pressure inside the can is prone to increase, and failure to meet the pressure resistance requirements can easily cause bursting. This is a mandatory test item.

5. Inner and outer coatings: Key for corrosion prevention

The inner coating directly contacts the contents and needs to be uniform, free of impurities, with strong adhesion, no pinholes, or detachment. A hundred-grid test can be conducted to check for large-area detachment of the coating; for cans containing acidic / alkaline contents, a medium-temperature immersion test (such as 72 hours without swelling or corrosion) should be performed. The outer coating needs to be wear-resistant and scratch-resistant to ensure the integrity of the appearance during transportation and storage.

6. Process and compliance: Quality endorsement

Official products must comply with standards and provide test reports for materials, pressure resistance, sealing, etc. Preferentially choose manufacturers with complete quality control to avoid products from unqualified small factories.

In summary, to judge the quality of aluminum spray cans, one needs to "look at appearance, measure size, check sealing, test pressure resistance, inspect coating, and verify compliance". Combining multiple dimensions can select safe and durable products, and avoid risks such as leakage, burst, and corrosion from the source.
